11th - 16th OCTOBER: FOREIGN TRIP
THE ART & PALACES OF BOLOGNA, RAVENNA, MANTOVA & FERRARA
A group of HDFAS members enjoyed 5 days of perfect weather, a busy schedule of sightseeing and good food. Staying at the Hotel Aemilia in Bologna, the first day was spent seeing the art of the Pinacoteca Nazionale in Bologna, followed by a guided tour of the city. Thursday included an excursion to Ravenna with visits to the church of St Apollinare Nuovo, St. Vitale and the Mausoleo di Galla Placida. The following day was spent in Mantova visiting local palaces. No tours were planned for Saturday which enabled members of the group to choose what they wanted to see; several went to the Sanctuary of St. Luca. The walled town of Ferrara was the destination for the final day with tours of the Palaces of the D'Este dynasty and the town.
